A four-tiered assessment approach can be used to analyze research quality:

  • Evaluating the quality tools used or created by students.
  • Tracking the number of publications and patents.
  • Assessing whether quality statements are included in research publications.
Student skill development can be evaluated by monitoring participation in national and international workshops, conferences, and social outreach activities. Documenting the costs involved in completing a PhD degree is also crucial. Such analysis can include the number of principal investigators, their qualifications, ongoing and completed projects, funding amounts, and invited talks at conferences. Awards, grants, and leadership roles in social outreach programs should also be measured.

The Path Forward
